TV Addiction

After a long day of law school, sometimes it just feels oh so good to curl up and veg in front of a screen. And thanks to Netflix on demand, my advanced piracy skills, and my geekish urge to buy giant DVD box sets, I have a bit of a tendency to find a half way decent or at least trashily entertainingly show and devote huge swaths of time to watching every last second of it.

So far I have wasted far too many hours of my life watching every episode ever of :
30 Rock
Angel
Battlestar Gallactica
Better Off Ted
Big Bang Theory
Bones
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Burn Notice
Castle
Community
Dexter
Dead Like Me
Dollhouse
Firefly
Gilmore Girls
Glee
Gossip Girl
Heroes
How I Met Your Mother
Mad Men
Merlin
Modern Family
Parks and Recreation
Pushing Daisies
Sanctuary
Sex and the City
Stargate
Stargate - Atlantis
The Office
True Blood
United States of Tara
Veronica Mars

For those of you at home, that's a total of approximately 31 series. Not counting any series that I've seen significant amounts of, but not quite all. And it's entirely possible that I've forgotten one or two. Granted, some of these are still on the air and only on their first or second season, but it's still an overly huge amount.

This may explain why I barely understand what an easement is, or what rule of 11 of civil procedure actually means, but I can easily explain various complex love triangles and vampire mythologies with ease.

Oh, and as to the point of this post - I'm running out of new shows to binge on. Any suggestions?

  1. Why is Dexter not on this list? Maybe you don't watch rated R movies. Wait, SATC IS ON THERE. WATCH DEXTER NOW. WATCH DEXTER NOW.
Or Six Feet Under. They both have the same amazing star, MCH.
Also, I LOVE PUSHING DAISIES. And True Blod. And 30 Rock. And The Office.

    WATCH DEXTER NOW.

  2. Wait Dexter isn't on the list? That's because I'm an idiot. Fixing. Now.

Six Feet Under...I haven't heard much about it besides Michael C. Hall. Which really should be reason enough.

  3. Oh phew. And Six Feet Under has the most amazing series finale ever. No, seriously. EVER. It is worth watching all 5 seasons of semi-depressing (but amazing) episodes SIMPLY for the last 2-3 episodes. I cried for like, 3 hours straight.
Google "six feet under finale" and you'll see it's on most top 10 series finale lists.... IT'S THAT AWESOME. It's just such a good series.... And now I know what I'm doing tonight after finishing my Dexter season 3 marathon.

  4. Wow. Seriously. Wow.

I love Grey's Anatomy, except for the fifth season. 1-4 is pretty good though, and the sixth is getting better again.

  5. Okay Gena, I am right there with you. I spend pretty much all my free time watching trash TV and honestly lets face it, what could be better? Nothing.

I find myself having the same problem when I finish a season of shows, I never know what to try next. Can you recommend a really great season of a show (or two, in case I have already watched the first show you recommend) to me from your list?

Re: your list, I love House and it's in it's 6th season. Karl and I just started White Collar on USA (crime drama similar to Catch Me if You Can) which we like - check hulu. I can't miss my Survivor on Thursday Nights. Also, if you have streaming Netflix, you have GOT to watch The IT Crowd - British comedy on BBC and we can't stop laughing. Other notable shows I watch not on your list: America's Next top model, scrubs, the bachelor (I know...I need better shows), and Biggest Loser.

  6. Um, I think we need to be internet besties ASAP.

Start Supernatural. You will greatly enjoy it. But please, don't google anything related to Supernatural. I'm really glad I started to like it before I knew what freakshows its fans were. It's not a "I liked it before it was cool thing," it's a "I don't want to be associated with people who think this might be real" thing.
